Acne scar treatment
There are a variety of acne scar treatments that can work well for acne scarring depending on the type and severity of scars, your skin tone, and your budget. Scarring can be difficult to fully eliminate. Expectations need to be realistic.
At Celebrity Skincare we always recommend starting with the least invasive treatment that will improve the level and depth of scarring and progress into more aggressive treatments as needed. This is the best way to avoid possible complications and get the best results.
Many times, individuals have active acne and acne scarring at the same time that needs to be addressed. It should be noted there are some acne scar treatments that are not appropriate (microneedling, for example) if you are currently “breaking out”. These should be avoided until the acne is under control.
The best place to figure out how to start healing your acne and acne scarring is to book a New Client Consultation + Treatment to sort out your personal acne history, products, and create a treatment plan designed for your unique skin type, tone and lifestyle considerations.
Mid-depth / medium depth peels for acne scarring
Medium Depth Chemical Peels, also known as mid-depth peels are a good option for acne and acne scarring. Medium-depth peels improve the texture, tone and clarity of the skin, reduce age spots, improve hyperpigmentation (including melasma), soften lines and wrinkles, help clear acneic skin conditions, reduce acne scars, and stimulate the production of collagen, for firmer more youthful skin.
These peels are “stronger” and travel “deeper” into the dermis than light/superficial chemical peels. Mid-depth peels have noticeable downtime (more flakes/bigger flakes) when compared to lighter peels. The VI Peel is another Medium Depth Peel we offer at Celebrity Skincare.
How Many Chemical Peels Do I Need To Treat Acne Scars?
Although acne scarring appears more often on the face, almost any part of the body can be peeled and rejuvenated. We can peel your chest, shoulders, back and arms. The medium depth peel is safe for most skin types, including darker skin tones, so long as the skin has been appropriately prepped beforehand with products and progressive peels.
At Celebrity Skincare, we often recommend utilizing different acne scarring treatments to ensure the best possible result.
You may start with a New Client Consultation + Treatment which may include the Acne Deep Pore Cleansing Facial with Celluma Light Therapy. If appropriate, the next step would be the Microneedle Peel/Microneedle Peel Package, and/or alternating between the Medium Depth Peel and Microneedle Peel. We will recommend a regimen for your specific needs and goals.
Microneedling for acne scars
In addition to chemical peels and microdermabrasion, microneedling has been well-documented and researched as a safe and effective treatment for scar reduction (acne scarring, stretch marks, hypertrophic and surgical scarring), fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, pore reduction, improving rough skin texture, pigment irregularities, and overall skin rejuvenation.
Microneedling creates micro-punctures in the skin stimulating wound healing and producing new collagen and elastin. Special topicals like stem cells and growth factors can be infused into the skin to help regenerate new skin and reduce/soften scarring.
Our Microneedle Peel Treatment can be performed on all areas of the body (face, neck, chest, arms, legs, abdomen) including hard to reach areas like around the eyes and nose. This treatment includes microneedling, a light chemical peel and Celluma Light Therapy. This dynamic trio speeds up progress and increases results. The risks and downtime involved with chemical peels and microneedling are minimal when compared to more invasive laser resurfacing treatments. They are also safe for darker skin tones, which have limited options for acne scar reduction treatments.
